Are there any medications for glaucoma that you should take before flying?

1 doctor agrees

In brief: Flying eye pressure

The eye is filled with water and water is essentially non-compressible.
The cabins are also pressurized.... Therefore, unless you have a gas in the eye (such as after a retinal detachment repair) then air travel is not an issue for eye pressure.

In brief: No

Altitude change does significantly affect eye pressure.
Also airplane cabins are pressurized. Faa has cleared glaucoma drops for use. Eyes often become dry on airplanes.

In brief: No

The increased pressure in the eye that is glaucoma is different from the pressure change experienced while traveling an airplane.
The force that acts on air to increase or decrease pressure does not have the same effect on the eye because it is a fluid filled globe. The glaucoma is a chemical abnormality. Medications act on the glaucoma irrespective of the barometric pressure around the eye.
