In brief: Thyroid + Pregnancy

Due to increased hormone levels , a woman's need for thyroid replacement may go up.
Careful monitoring in all trimesters is important . Untreated hypothyroidism in the mother during gestation is seriously problematic for the child. Even under treatment can hurt neurocognitive development. It may be hard to conceive or successfully get to term if untreated or undertreated. Consult your obgyn or gp.

In brief: Cretinism

Until about 14 weeks gestation the fetus depends on the mother's thyroid hormone before it can make its own.
Severe low levels of maternal thyroid hormone can cause cretinism which is a syndrome of severe physical stunting and mental developmental delay. If already diagnosed with hypothyroidism be diligent about taking daily thyroid hormone medication and get levels checked every 3 months at least.
