Purging (vomiting, laxatives, enemas, diuretics) can be physically destructive, non-purging has fewer medical issues.
Purging may cause gastric rupture, esophageal tears, cardiomyopathy (syrup of ipecac induced vomiting), abnormal electrolyte induced irregular heart beats. Dental decay occurs also. Treatment can be hindered by misdiagnosis, shame, isolation, fear of weight gain and rejection.
