In brief: Anytime

Anytime an incision is made on the skin it can leave a visible scar. Although the incisions used in liposuction are placed in inconspicuous skin creases, certain skin types may hyperpigment or be darker, when a large volume of fat needs to be removed via the incision it could be more irritated or red post liposuction, and specific liposuction techniques like ultrasound assisted or power assisted may increase the risk of burning the skin edge and leaving a suboptimal scar. Adequate tumescent in the immediate incision location, care in withdrawal and insertion of the cannula, use of a lubricant (fat), and skin protectors (the vaser skin ports are great) when expected increased risk for scarring is present allow for the least visible scars.
