Usually bronchitis is self limited (meaning that it will get better with time).
Surgical intervention is only done if there is a part of the lung that is diseased or has scarring of the airways (known as bronchiectasis). Today we do less surgery for this reason than we used to.

Chronic bronchitis is a form of COPD and there is no cure, surgical or otherwise.
Symptoms can usually be controlled w/ inhalers and sometimes oxygen therapy if your oxygen level is low. Smoking cessation is imperative if you are currently smoking. See your doctor so that the best treatment can be rendered.
