Is orajel safe for teething babies? I have used orajel to help my baby with teething pain, but i'm worried about the side effects. Should i stop using it for teething? .

In brief: Seek solutions

Call a pediatric dental specialist (as opposed to a general dentist).
They have lots of suggestions that you will find to be very helpful.

In brief: On

On april 7, 2011, the fda released a warning about over-the-counter Benzocaine products to relieve pain due to teething.
The issue was that Benzocaine could lead to situations in which blood cells contained too much methemoglobin. This in turn reduced the ability of the blood to carry oxygen. Baby orajel® naturals does not contain benzocaine.

In brief: Stop using it

Small quantities are safe to use, but i would only use it if absolutely necessary (if needed to fall asleep).
The effect is only very temporary. Give him something cold to chew on instead (frozen washcloth, teething ring) during the day. This will feel good and help the teeth come in as well.
