In brief: Yes

Most, if not all, pain meds are considered safe in pregnancy and post-partum to provide pain relief for the mom. However, we know that small amounts of the drug cross the placenta or pass into the breast milk, so the question isn't really if Oxycontin is safe to take, but is it necessary to take.
There are other, less potent meds that will provide adequate pain relief without medicating the baby.

In brief: Recognize Issues

The opioid class of drugs consumed during pregnancy may cause behavioral developmental issues, the extent of which is not fully known.
Regular use may cause a withdrawal syndrome in the baby which needs to be treated if present. Avoid the use of nsaid's during pregnancy such as aspirin, motrin, diclofenac, etc or after delivery if nursing. Discuss these issues with your ob.

In brief: Relatively safe

Oxycontin is relatively safer compared to most other painkillers.
You have to be aware that it does cause respiratory depression, so high doses should be avoided.

In brief: Yes

Oxycontin is safe in pregnancy.
Like all pain medications as long as the benefits outweigh the risks then it makes sense to use the medication.
