In brief: If

If you are experiencing pain to a thermal stimulus (hot & cold, especially cold) then it is probably another tooth.
Teeth that have had root canal therapy completed should not be sensitive to hot & cold. You should go back to your dentist to determine the source of the pain, and to restore the tooth that had the root canal since it will decay under the temporary filling. This problem will not go away by itself and must be treated.

In brief: Root canal hurts

The first thing your dentist needs to check is the bite.
If the bite is off you will be sensitive to hot and cold and maybe have a dull ache or inflammation and bleeding around the gums. You be clenching or grinding at night that can make it worse. It also can be the roots are not perfectly clean (which can sometimes be difficult). Have your dentist take an x-ray to see if there is an abscess.

The 'temp filling' part of your question raises a red flag.
After a root canal - it is important to have the tooth properly restored - if a final restoration - such as a crown is not placed on the tooth then the canals that were sterilized during the root canal procedure can be re-infected with bacteria. Reinfection will lead to the kind of pain you're describing.
