is an absolutely amazing field of practice that combines detailed anatomic knowledge, complex problem solving, creativity and artistry, and attention to detail.
You will find that plastic surgeons typically are drawn to all of these elements of plastic surgery, and find great satisfaction in their chosen field of practice.
During college and medical school training, students experience a range of different areas of medicine. This broad experience helps students to determine which type medical/surgical practice appeals to them. Students consider factors such as their own strengths and interests, technical abilities, lifestyle, length of training, and very importantly, what interests them and what they're good at! most students have a general sense of these things when entering their academic training, but the details are refined as they continue to experience different areas of medicine. Physicians who end up completing the long and competitive training involved in plastic surgery typically entered medical school with interest and abilities in surgery, an excellent academic record, a goal-driven personality, and a personality that achieves gratification in completing projects to excellence. Every field of medicine has a list of strong positives, and these are some that i feel apply to plastic surgeons.
There is great career satisfaction amongst plastic surgeons, and more broadly, for any physician who chooses a field that suits their personality and interests well !
all the best,
