In brief: If

If after eating something these symptoms went away, the diagnosis could be hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
Some elderly individuals can develop what is called post prandial hypoglycemia, that is their blood sugar start to fall after few hours of having a meal to the point that they start to have symptoms. This can be confirmed by a 5 hour or 6 hour glucose tolerance test. If this diagnosis is confirmed, he should be given small frequent meals to prevent symptomatic hypoglycemia.
