Travel Medicine

In brief: Now Category B

The fda has upgraded Mefloquine to a category b drug and the cdc now recommends this medicine for prevention and treatment of malaria in all trimesters of pregnancy.
Malaria in pregnancy can be more severe than in non pregnant individuals & pregnant moms run risk of passing it to the baby before or during delivery. If travel to malaria area cannot be delayed, Mefloquine is wise--breastfeeding too.
