Shoulder . Shoulder pain can be from a variety of things, including arthritis, rotator cuff problems and instability of the shoulder. Shoulder instability can at times give the feeling of numbness in the arm or fingers. However numbness in the fingers can mean carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve compression or cervical spine or peripheral nerve compression. Cervical spine problems can make shoulder muscles sore and lead to or be accompanied by numbness in the fingers most distal or hand wrist related nerve compression syndromes such as carpal tunnel do not cause shoulder pain. Thus shoulder pain and achiness in the arms and finger numbness can be seveal different things or related all to one distinct problem a good start is an exam by a pcp and if needed a referral to an orthopedic surgeon or a hand surgeon if an answer is not apparent or if further defined treatment is needed.
