In brief: There are resources

Although I do not share your fear of stimulants, there are other approaches.
Start with "addressing add naturally" by dr. Kathi kemper. At age 6, he might do well with a good behavior program. Check out the chadd.Org website for books about such treatments. "natural" remedies are unstudied and usually either ineffective or use high doses of caffeine; natural does not equal safe.

I agree with your comments, and do not share the member's fear of stimulants either. Perhaps the member could learn more about ADHD and how effective and safe the stimulants actually are, he/she would reconsider and discuss treatment options with his/her pediatrician. I have collected several articles on ADHD: http://www.evernote.com/l/AAXMX-H95BhAna50wLDmHvqbttvZxeV7BTY/. I hope that helps

In brief: Have

Have your child been diagnosed with adhd by the professionals? If yes, is your child's functioning interferes with his school performance or daily functioning? In what areas? Is there learning issues, behavioral issues, hyperactivity or just inattention? It is important to answer all the questions before you can consider any treatment.
There are many ways you can help your child without the medications. Unfortunately i would not suggest any supplements at this age. There diet restrictions you can try simply by reduction of sugar intake or food dyes. In addition, there some behavioral techniques that can help your child to improve concentration, focus, and overall behaviors. It is good to find the skilled therapist in assisting you on this matter. Best regards, dr. Doulova at abc psychiatric services.
