When is good time to go off of depo-provera (medroxyprogesterone) I have been on Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone) for ten years. Currently I am divorced, 32 years of age and have no intentions of having intercourse any time soon.

In brief: Stay protected

This is a personal decision you will need to make with your gynecologist or pcp -- there is no "right" time.
But you should make sure that you have protection available against becoming pregnant, because situations can take a sudden turn sometimes. Also make sure that you can protect yourself against std's, which can be transmitted even without intercourse.

In brief: Current

Current recommendations for women on depo for over two years is screening for osteoporosis with a bmd (bone mineral density) measurement.
If you have not had this done then you should speak with your doctor about scheduling this appointment. Based on the results, a decision can be made on wheter or not to continue with depo. While on depo you should adopt a weight-bearing exercise routine and a calcium rich diet. An alternative birth control method you may want to consider is the iud. Your doctor can discuss all your options, and weigh the risks and benefits of each one. Good luck!
