The intestine produce mucus which is excreted with fecal matter, however excretion of large amounts of mucus or 'blobs' is abnormal.
Large amounts of mucus when having a bowel movement can be attributed to a few causitive factors: 1. A bacterial infection or sexually transmitted disease in the anal or GI tract 2. Onset or manifestation of irritable bowel syndrome, crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. These conditions are diagnosed by a doctor and require treatment. 3. Proctitis, inflammation of the anus as a result of infection or medical treatment such as radiation. It is important that you make an appointment with your doctor so that that causing factor can be identified and treated.
