In brief: Any

Any abdominal pain during pregnancy should be evaluated.
When a patient is pregnant, there is expansion of both the pelvis bones initially, and then as the baby grows and the uterus rises out of the pelvic area, it can put pressure on the ribs. Some women even describe feeling kicks in the rib area. If a patient has any new or persistent pain during pregnancy, especially if it is accompanied by fever, problems with urinating, vomiting, or decreased fetal (baby) movement, the patient should be immediately evaluated by an obstetrician (pregnancy doctor).
