Are turtles safe pets for kids?

In brief: Maybe

I would never suggest a turtle to an immunocompromised child.
Even healthy children can get salmonella from handling their pet turtles. If you can be 100% sure (and who can be?) that your child will wash their hands each and every time they handle the turtle or its accessories, a turtle would be an acceptable pet. Personally, I would try to steer you to a different pet.

In brief: No

One cannot guarantee that the turtles are salmonella-free.
