In brief: Probably Viral infec

Sore throat is frequently caused by a virus(viral upper respiratory infection).
You can take Aspirin or tylenol (acetaminophen) for relief of symptoms but it has to be repeated every 6 to every 8 hours in order to control the fever. Fever should settle down in 3-5 days. If the fever persists you should see your family doctor as you may require antibiotics if you have strept throat infection.
