My husband has coughing attacks where he coughs so much he almost passes out and turns red in the face. The redness lasts for 24 hours or more. He does smoke but he is not going to quit. What can he do to help with these attacks?

How . How long cough has been there, is he a smoker and does he bring up any sputum?
See specialist. Severe coughing can interfere with sleep and daily activities. The best approach is to see a lung specialist to identify the reason for the cough so appropriate treatment can be given. Don't assume the cough is from smoking. However, be prepared to hear the "stop smoking" recommendation. Every good doctor will suggest a person stop! a thorough evaluation should find the reason for coughing.
