What can I expect from a hysterectomy? I am considering having a hysterectomy. What are the repurcussions, recovery terms, and long-term effects?

Gynecology

In brief: Depends

Depends on why it is being done and how it is being done.
I would discuss more with your doctor because each dr has different post op instructions. It is considered a major surgery. Healing takes about 8 weeks though some may return to work as soon as 2 wks. Without a uterus - no more period. If ovaries removed you will go through menopause. Depending cervix may be left to help with support.
