In brief: VERY

Sepsis means blood-borne infection, with systemic inflammatory response and abnormal organ function.
Normal WBC is roughly 5-10, 000. Wbc of 71000 is very abnormal-sign of severe infection, leukemia, or abnormal marrow response (leukemoid reaction).

In brief: High White Count...

You would likely be very sick as that is a very elevated white blood count.
Doctors also have to evaluate the patients other signs/symptoms to figure out the severity and likely source of the patient's sepsis syndrome. With a white count as high as that, another possible diagnosis is some form of leukemia and, again, a physician would need to examine the patient to figure this out. Best of luck.

In brief: Probably quite ill

Sometimes in sepsis the white blood cell count shoots up to very hgih levels, but then falls just as quickly.
However, in general, if a patient has sepsis and a very high white blood cell count, they are extremely sick.
