I have dark red mucus from blowing my nose. What is the cause of this?

In brief: Hard to say.

Red colored mucus may be something benign such as a superficial blood vessel opening up when you blow your nose.
But it could more serious and could represent an autoimmune disease such as wegener's granulomatosis. You need a rhinological (nose) exam with an endoscope to make an appropriate diagnosis and proper treatment.
