How effective is having a lingual frenectomy to correct a tied tongue?

In brief: Very effective

If the frenum is the problem, the procedure can work extremely well for increasing range of motion.
The procedure tends to be fairly short and the results are almost immediate.

I do many of these on infants as well, as it can negatively impact breastfeeding until it's released. If you have one, your kids may also.

It's worth doing if the baby can't protrude the tip of his tongue past his teeth or gums.

In brief: Typically very

The frenectomy can be very helpful.
If your child has a "posterior" tongue tie, one that is deeper in the tissue, you may need a pediatric ENT to reclip, however, as this is a trickier problem to treat. Also, your baby may need oromotor therapy (tongue physical therapy) with a speech therapist or lactation consultant if not improved after the procedure.

When done properly, it's a relatively easy procedure and very effective.
