What does it mean if you haven't had a period in months, but this month you've had spotting and bleeding and now huge dark red blood clots?

In brief: Probable PCOS

Patients with polycystic ovary syndrome have long periods of amenorrhea , then may have prolonged spotting and heavy erratic bleeding.
This may especially be the case if one is overweight, has greasy skin and or acne with unwanted facial hair. If this is an occasional occurrence may also be stress related and not due to pcos. Exclude pregnancy, other hormone disorders, and medication side-effects.
