What things happen to you that 'made you eat'? Exercise, or just increasing your activity level will help you burn more calories.

You may or may not have anxiety, but if you're gaining weight, you definitely are eating more calories than you burn! the only way to lose weight is to eat less calories than you burn.
Doing both (eating less and exercising more) will help you lose the weight fastest. If you eat because of your mental status, then see a psychologist or psychiatrist before you get to a point of no return.
