I have been experiencing a numb sensation in my left arm apparently from a knot on my left shoulder blade from stress. Is this normal?

In brief: No, not normal

It's not normal for stress alone to cause an ongoing numb sensation in your arm. If you have enough stress to cause a "knot" on your left shoulder blade, you need an evaluation with your family physician.
Sometimes deep tissue massage can help knots like that, but it keeps recurring you need to work on the stress part also.
