In schizoaffective disorder, the person suffers ongoing psychotic symptoms such as paranoia or delusions whether or not a mood problem is present.
However, they can certainly be sick with depression or mania too. In bipolar disorder, mood instability is the main problem. There are no psychotic symptoms unless in an active episode of depression or mania.
