I have been advised to watch my blood sugar levels as i m borderline diabetic. What can I do to prevent becoming diabetic. It is hereditary?

In brief: Yes, Hereditary

Diabetes can ususally be treated with diet alone if caught early enough.
But not everybody. Cut down on starches (bread, pasta, potatos and rice) and sweets. Do not drink alcohol as it is a double sugar. Spread your meals out so you are eating small amounts several times a day instead of eating big meals. Do exercise daily, even if it is just walking. Have your doctor follow you closely.
