In brief: I wouldn't use them

Chloramphenacol has a rare but real complication of causing the bone marrow to shut down in children leading to a fatal aplastic anemia.
This occurs primarily when used in oral or IV form but has happened with eye drops.The medication is rarely used in this country & only if it is the only drug available to treat an infection.
