In brief: Floss+brush+dentist

Prevention of dental disease is like taking a road trip: change you oil & plan to stop for gas: you could take the emergency walk to the service station, but it will take longer, cost more, and end in a less than ideal result.
See your dentist regularly and he/she should give you pointers on how to keep your teeth really healthy including fine-tuning your daily flossing & brushing.

In brief: It's easy

Make sure you brush your teeth after every meal, floss twice a day, and rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash every morning and every night.
Also, it's important to see your dentist every 6 months to remove tartar buildup which can contribute to bad breath.

In brief: A good hygiene

Regimen minimally includes - morning teeth and tongue brushing - use a mechanical toothbrush like oral b triumph.
At night - waterpik first then brush, floss and use a good mouth rinse. Crest pro health is a good alcohol free rinse. Spend some time doing a good job. It's not the olympics! if you can do this - it is a 10 minute daily commitment which will ensure good checkups. Good diet also.
