We are not sure. Lucid dreaming is the conscious awareness of dreaming during rem sleep. There is no well documented evidence of bad effects of lucid dreaming. However, it may be because there is not a lot of people doing that type of research. Some medications that can prevent rem sleep, are not associated with observable ill-effects.
