In brief: Pink eye

Pink eye, broadly referred as " conjunctivitis" only means your eye is red.
It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, allergies as well as chemical irritation. Therefore not all " pink eyes" are treated the same.

"Pink Eye" in the lay population is construed as an infection until proven otherwise. These "pink eyes" come to our clinics so that we can determine whether they truly have a contagious infection (usually viral) that nessitates their release from work or school, from the other non-infectious causes like allergy or chemical for example .

In brief: Conjunctivitis

"pink eye" generally refers to a virally transmitted infection form human to human, generally related to common cold viruses.
Secretions from an infected person are usually spread by hand to hand or eye transfer, coughing in one's face, sharing of utensils or other items, door handles, computer keyboards, ipads, etc.
