In brief: Elavil (amitriptyline)

Usually takes 4-6 weeks for you to notice some pain relief effect.

In brief: No

Elavil (amitriptyline) is an old generation anti-depressant which has significant anti-neuropathic pain property (it relieves nerve pain).
As with almost all medications in this class, it takes a while for the medicine to build up in the system. With elavil, this could be a few weeks. This is not an needed medicine. It may improve sleep immediately though.
