In brief: Teething?
Usually the complete set of primary (baby) teeth are erupted by 30 months of age.
If your 3 year old is have pain, he/she could be late with tooth eruption. However, we usually see 3 year olds with their full compliment of baby teeth, so the pain could be something else e.g. Decay, ulcerations etc. You should bring your child to a pediatric dentist to find out what is happeneing.

In brief: Yes
The purposes of doing things for teething is to erupt the tooth through the gums.
So when you use somthing for this in the mouth, you need to be cautious, like a cold teething ring, a cold peeled carrot, etc. For bad events, use a dose of tylenol (acetaminophen). No alcoholic beverages. No ambusol?, it can burn the gums and is too short acting for effect.

In brief: Try Tylenol (acetaminophen) / Motrin
If a baby has new teeth just erupting, the gums above the new teeth may be tender and make it a little harder for the baby to sleep soundly.
Giving some liquid tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin, a half-hour before bedtime or before his main nap, can help decrease the discomfort enough so he can fall asleep normally. Because teething is not a serious problem, give the medicine only 1-2 times a day, up to 2-3 days.
