I will give you an example.
If someone has an acl tear ( this is in the knee), the muscle above the knee will often get thin and weak. This is called atrophy. Muscle stimulation can often be used in the beginning of a rehab process to get the muscle back into condition. This is not the only treatment but it is a good way to start.
