In brief: A tumor is a swollen

Mass of tssue that does not belong n the place that it is.
In the hand or in any other part of the body a tumor is caused by an abnormal bit if tissue growing where it does not belong. A ganglion is the most common soft tissue tumorof the hand. Other common benign tumors are giant cell tumor of tendon sheath . Benig tumors are very common in the hand, dangerous one do occur but a lot less frequenl.

In brief: Variable.

The hand is a fairly common location for tumors, and because of the many different types of tissue, different tumors can form (skin, muscle, fat, tendon, bone) both on the skin and underneath it.
The most common type of tumor that doctors see in hands is a ganglion cyst, which is a fluid filled abscess that occurs beneath the skin, either well within the wrist/hand or right near the surface, causi.

In brief: Several

Hand tumors can be primary (originate in the hand) or secondary (spread from a distant site).
They can be benign or malignant (cancerous). Most hand tumors are benign. Be sure to see a hand surgeon for a complete evaluation.
