In brief: Pins in the hand
It depends on where the pins are, how solid or fixed they are, and whether or not they are interfering with soft tissue gliding of the tendons of the hand.
Normally after an injury it is important to get joints moving within 3 weeks as we have found poorer results in patients with more than 3 week delay in initiation of motion. Pins may need removal if they are palpable or restriction motion.

In brief: Pin = DON"T MOVE
The purpose of the pin is to immobilize the fracture so hand motion should be restricted.
Moving a fracture can cause a non-union or malunion requiring more extensive surgery such as plating and/or bone grafting.
