When should a person consider physical therapy after her hand surgery?

Stiffness, pain, etc. Post-operative hand therapy is a very helpful adjunct to surgery. Hand therapists can address stiffness, sensory re-education, desensitization, strength training, wound care and many more post-operative issues. Your hand surgeon would typically decide if you are a good candidate for hand therapy.
Early post op. Generally , therapy is started early on in the recovery process. Less than 2 weeks. However, the therapy is usually done by an occupational therapist.
Stiffness or scar. Stiffness or hard painful scars are good reasons to have therapy.
