My doctor says i may have mitral valve prolapse. However there's a ten month wait for an ethnocardiogram , my symptoms are persisting and sometimes worsening, chest pain , rapid heart beat, shortness of breath post excercise , fatigue , what should I do?

In brief: Nothing

If you haven't had the echo, then the diagnosis of mvp has not been established.
Even if you do have it, mvp does not cause these symptoms. Doctors blame all kinds of things on mvp but they are not related. There is no treatment required for mvp and none that is helpful. If the wait for an echo is that long then you are in the wrong health system.

Yes, any symptoms are due to another problem. If the symptoms persist then some other evaluations could help. In particular it is useful to record an ECG during any periods where you perceive abnormal heart rate. That can be done with a portable monitor or, less convenient, by going to an emergency department if the episodes last long enough. Most with these complaints find nothing significant

In brief: Medication

Medications can help with mvp.
However w/o the echocardiogram it will be more difficult to know for sure that it is mvp. Ask your doctor why there is a10 month wait for the echo and if meds like beta blockers could help in the interim.

In brief: See cardiologist

Mitral valve prolapse is fairly common condition that in most cases doesn't cause symptoms, if you have all those symptoms consult with cardiologist, although the most common test echo is not the only test to assess your symptoms, especially if the symptoms interact with your everyday life.
