As Dr. LaBarbera points out findings on a chest x-ray can support a diagnosis of asthma. For example, asthma causes hyperinflation of the lungs that can be seen on chest x-ray (see photo). The chest radiograph is used in evaluation of the wheezing patient to rule-out other causes like infection, heart disease or a congenital mass.
