I have a tweaked meniscus from grappling. My doctor recommended aleve, (naproxen) but hasn't helped. Any other OTC suggestions for joint/pain relief?

Advil (ibuprofen) If you don't respond to alleve, try advil (ibuprofen). Some patients respond better to advil (ibuprofen). If its just a tweak, it should get better in a week or so. Also try ice and rest. If no improvement see a sports orthopedist for a work up and proper diagnosis and treatment plan which may include knee arthroscopic surgery.

Arthroscopic surgery is indicated for those with persistent pain, swelling or catching/painful popping. Ibuprofen is an alternative to aleve (naproxen). For those with arthritis, glucosamine/chrondroitin can be helpful. Read more...

In fact that is the reason why it is prescribed the most- for joint pain. If these side effects outweigh relief you are getting from it, then stop it. There are other NSAIDs which can be safely prescribed (as long as your kidney function is good.) for your tendonitis. Read more...
