In brief: Unlikely

No. Sitting is not associated with atherosclerosis or vascular disease.
However, having said that, if you do have vascular disease and claudication, regular exercise will increase your exercise endurance- this has been proven and is the first recommendation along with optimal medical management (aspirin and a statin).

In brief: Something else

It is certainly possible that the pain you are experiencing in the legs is not blood flow related at all.
If sitting too long makes your leg pain worse then perhaps this may be a spine related arthropathy and not related to blood flow at all. A vascular surgeon can help you with this.

In brief: Depends

If sitting all day means that you get no exercise, then sitting could be making your claudication worse.
If you are having pain while sitting at rest, then i agree with the other doctors, your problem might not be claudication.

In brief: Claudication

claudication symptoms are improved by activity as this will help build up collateral circulation allowing for increased ability to walk
