Duplex ultrasound is an excellent, noninvasive method to check for abnormal flow and atherosclerotic plaque buildup in your arteries.
They are safe and effective. Occasionally a secondary test such as a ct or MRI will be recommended to confirm findings on an ultrasound. The test is not painful, and involves the technician using jelly on the area to be studied and gentle pressure with a probe.
