For a toe nail fungus, which over-the-counter cream is more effective, Lamisil (terbinafine) or lotrimin?

Fungus. Neither of them a good for nail fungus. Dark lines may be something more serious. Oral meds are fairly effective but run risk of liver damage. Laser has shown to be quite effective.
I don't find. Any topicals to be very effective on toe nail fungus. Oral Lamisil (terbinafine) is much more effective.
Neither. Unless you are catching an infection of the nail very early while it is superficial, neither cream has much chance at success. Fungal nail infections can involve the full thickness of the nail and nail bed, so these creams don't address the whole infection. Your podiatrist can speak of prescription medications, which have a much better track record.

I have athletes foot have been using terbinafine. I think I may have toenail fungus as its tingly around my nails and they're a bit yellow? How to tell

The diagnosis . Really can't be made by "just looking". When nails don't look normal many just assume its fungus. Often times it can be subungual keratinazation or bacterial colonization. The only way to differentiate all these is for a doctor to send a specimen to a pathology lab. Read more...

I have athletes foot have been using terbinafine for a week. I think I have toenail fungus will that help or do I need a polish/use over nail polish?

Toenail fungus. terbinafine cream is for topical (skin) antifungal treatment and will not penetrate into the toenail for effective treatment. Specific toenail products are used due to components that penetrate into the hard keratin structure of the nail. There are many over the counter products that can be tried, but often a stronger doctors formula or prescription strength product is necessary. . Read more...

My son had toe nail fungus. I tried different creams and home remedies but I haven't seen any improvement. What should I do?

Vicks vaporub. Anecdotal evidence that rubbing Vicks vaporub into the affected nail every night can help. Since nail grows so slow, you have to give it 12-18 months to see the results. Otherwise oral Lamisil (terbinafine) for 3 months with same amount of wait time to notice results. Read more...

If you had a choice for toenail fungus which would you choose between diflucan, lamisil, (terbinafine) or sporanox. Mind you, Lamisil (terbinafine) did not work completely before?

Lamisil (terbinafine) Is the safest and has the broadest spectrum of all the others. There are failures with any medication, and Lamisil (terbinafine) is no exception. I assume your nail(s) were cultured and showed a positive fungus growth, since there are other causes of thick discolored nails besides fungus, which would explain why Lamisil (terbinafine) didn't work on you. Even a positive culture doesn't mean the only cause is fungal. Read more...

Fungal Toenails. The best and most proven treatment of Fungal toenails is oral Lamisil (terbinafine) . Sporonox is no longer available. BUT, if you have any liver dysfunction, or if you are taking certain medications (particularly for Cholesterol) you can not take the oral medication. Topical therapies are then necessary. There is no evidence that Laser therapy is effective and there is no research that supports it. Read more...
