Can an ovarian cyst raise a ca-125 test?

Ovarian cyst. An ovarian cyst can raise the ca 125, but depending on the age, an elevated ca 125 and an ovarian cyst/mass/tumor/growth (all interchangeable names) can be worrisome.
Yes. Many benign conditions can cause a mild to moderate elevation in ca-125. Talk it over with your doctor.

I had a CA-125 done for ovarian cysts (10.5cm and 4cm) Test came back 190. Had another test weeks later and new u/s. Cyst is now 8.4 and CA-125 is 110. Is this even possible? Cysts are hypoechoic cystic lesions possibly endometriomas & endometriosis.

D/W your GYN. Endometriomas can elevate CA125 levels, it is good that the cyst and level of CA 125 are going down, but still needs to be monitored closely. Read more...
CA-125 testing. CA- 125 testing is notoriously inaccurate when it comes to testing for ovarian cancer especially when endometriosis is a part of the equation. IF there is continued concern most MD's will take a "look/see" with the laparoscope and confirm a definitive diagnosis. Read more...

When your gyn checks you for an ovarian cyst and then asks you to take a blood test for ca-125. Is that a bad sign?

CA 125 - Why check? Cancer antigen 125 (ca-125) is not a screening test for ovarian cancer. It is an adjunctive test for measuring tumor response (ie, a tumor marker) for pts w/ known ovarian cancer. It isn't perfect even when we know someone has ovarian cancer. In the appropriate clinical setting -- eg an abnormal ovary on imaging it might help determine if a mass is benign or malignant, but again is not perfect. Read more...
Not necessarily. The doctor may ask for ca125 as another piece of data to help decide what will be the best management for you. That number is used along with the size of the cyst, the complexity of the cyst, the presence of fluid in your abdomen, and your symptoms to decide if surgery is needed, and if so, whether it can safely be done by a general gynecologist of a gyn oncologist. Not Necessarily. The ca-125 test has become somewhat of an internet phenom! ca stands for cancer antigen. About 80% of ovarian cancers produce this tumor marker. Often the test is ordered when an ovarian cyst is identified. In many cases it is not appropriate. If you are post menopausal it has greater value in assessing an identified ovarian cyst. It is used to follow ovarian cancer treatment for recurrence. Read more...
Yes and No. Significance depends on your age. Ca-125 is a non-specific tumor marker for ovarian cancer (oc). Since oc is rare in younger patients, your age will impact how significant the reasoning may be. It is very non-specific and many things can cause an elevated ca-125. Your doctor will be able to explain this in great detail for you. Read more...

10 weeks pregnant. Iam having ovarian cysts of size 5cm. Doc did ca-125 test result 53.60u/ml. Vdrl serum non reactive. What does this means?

Need a more info. Ca125 is a measure that can be elevated in ovarian cancer, but it goes up normally in pregnancy. I would not be overly worried about that slight elevation.
A negative vdrl means that you do not have syphilis. All pregnant people are checked.
An ovarian cyst is normal and necessary in early pregnancy. It is the characteristics and how long it lasts in pregnancy that determine the course of action. Read more...

I have an ovarian cyst and my ca-125 is 30; what should I do now?

Ask MD ordering test. If there is a history of ovarian cysts and/or abnormal test, a woman definitely needs to be seek input from a specialist or subspecialist in gynecology. That is important to receive their interpretation and recommendations for now and the future. At some point she might need to be evaluated further. Rarely cancer can occur and can be suggested by imaging, so it might be ordered in some cases. Read more...
Sonogram. If an ovarian cyst is complex on scan or is larger than 5 cm. laparoscopic removal is effective in making a diagnosis and removing a potential problem even if there is no cancer. I have ovarian cysts on my both ovaries. Still I am twenty. My CA 125 count is 478. is it a ovarian cancer?

Unlikely but needs m. Any mass(even a cyst) if it is growing and gets to be over 5-6 CM has to be suspect for ovarian cancer. So you need a good gynecologist who can examine and check your ovaries periodically(like every 3 months). CA 125 can be high even in benign conditions unless it is rising rapidly and gets up to be.500 units. This should be checked periodically at 3 month intervals along with the Ultrrasound . Ca125 high had ovarian cysts now hot sweats extreme fatigue what's the next step?

Next Step. It is unclear what would have lead to testing a Ca-125 in a 26 year old female. Now that it has been demosntrated to be elevated in the setting of ovarian cycsts further evaluation should take place. The likley next step would be pelvic imaging with an US to urther characterize the cysts. It should be noted that ca-125 is not specific and can elevated for many reasons, not just ovarian cancer.
