What exactly is rheumatology?

Rheumatic Disease . The study of rheumatic diseases which include arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, soft tissue diseases, immunologic diseases, osteoporosis, back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, connective tissue diseases to name a few. There are over 100-150 rheumatic diseases.
Autoimmune diseases. Rheumatology is a subspecialty of internal medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of systemic autoimmune diseases.
Inflammation. It's the study of diseases of the body that usually have inflammation as a main manifestation. Most of the diseases we treat affect the stuff that makes the body together: bones, muscles, joints, and blood vessels. We treat a variety of illnesses including arthritis, lupus, gout, as well as more rare conditions.
