Most likely your shoes could be compressing a sensory nerve near the ankle.
Ah fashion! but you could also have a pinched nerve in your back (unlikely unless you have back pain radiating to your left side). Another possibility is peripheral neuropathy but you would probably have other areas of lower body numbness. See a podiatrist if this bothers you.
