In brief: None

Naturopaths having nothing to offer the polymyositic patient.
They will administer ineffective potions while the disease eats away at muscles. Polymyositis requires strong, clinical proven medication and you should not be seeing a non-medical person for this serious disease.

In brief: Supportive therapy

Over 90% of polio cases present as minor illnesses.
Paralytic cases are extremely rare. There is no conventional or naturopathic cure. Supportive therapy is the main treatment, and recovery is the goal, through stimulation of affected limbs, ventilator-aided breathing if needed, massage to regain muscle tone, vitamin rich diet, rebuild immune system.

It has a fecal-oral transmission route. Infection occurs when poliomyelitis virus enters the mouth, multiplies in throat & intestines, spreads through the blood to the nervous system. There, it attacks nerve cells, and can cause paralysis. The disease is now rare, about 13 cases per year in the U.S. with virtually all cases resulting from the oral polio vaccine.

As a point of interest, Dr. Frederick W. Collins (1873 - 1948) was one of the early students of Benedict Lust, founder of naturopathic medicine. Dr. Collins founded the New Jersey College of Chiropractic and Naturopathy in 1910 and was the first in America to establish a free clinic treating polio victims.
