In brief: Hip bursitis

It is likely that you have a condition called trochanteric bursitis of your hip--it is inflammation of the area surrounding the curve of the hip-thigh bone.
Possibly resulted from excessive use/walking/running and/or laying on the side on a firm/hard surface too long. Hip arthritis and disc disease can cause hip pain as well. Motrin/aleve may help. If not better, consult doc for eval. Good luck.

In brief: Many causes

Hip pain can be caused by a variety of different conditions.
Common diagnoses include: arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, torn cartilage (labral tear), nerve irritation, and referred pain from the lower back. The exact location of a patient's hip pain is often very helpful to identify the underlying problem. An orthopaedic evaluation with x-rays should be considered if pain does not improve.
