This really depends on the type of spine injury and the kind of neurologic deficit if present as well as any other associated injuries besides the burns.
Where the burns are located may also play a role. Without seeing the imaging studies and knowing his physical condition i can not answer this question. You should speak to his spine surgeon to see what options for treatment are available.
